A single point of access for the many pathways that members may follow according to their needs. CEM Jewish Community Milan Milan a Cosmopolitan , Entrepreunorial, Dynamic, JUDAISM A Community Waiting to be Discovered ...a historical note Jews in Milan, 150 years of history 1866-2016 Open to welcoming Jews from different parts of the world, today the Jewish Community of Milan is the second largest in Italy, after Rome. A vibrant intellectual and cultural dynamism that has left a lasting mark on the city’s social fabric. From Angelo Sraffa to Prospero Moise Loria, from Leo Valiani to Sabatino Lopez, from Yoseph Colombo to Leo Wachter; from the Umanitaria to Bocconi University, to the School of Via Eupili. A tradition built on dialogue, inclusion and philanthropy, from the Risorgimento through the world wars, and into the present day. The story of Milan is the story of a Jewish world that offered refuge to Jews in flight and welcomed everyone, becoming a model of integration within the social and economic fabric of the city. It is no coincidence that it was at Teatro alla Scala that Giuseppe Verdi’s Nabucco restored a sense of Italian pride to the Jewish people. Our Mission The CEM Portal represents a centralised hub for community communication, designed to act as a clear and reliable guide to the many services offered by the Community, while simultaneously providing access to essential information across the various areas in which it operates. This approach not only helps members quickly find information through an easy and precise search, but also allows everyone to immediately grasp the breadth and multifaceted nature of the services offered by the Community. So not to Forget: Among all the sites in Europe that were scenes of deportations, the Memorial is today the only one to have remained intact. It pays tribute to the victims of the extermination and serves as a living, dynamic space in which the tragedy of the Shoah can be actively explored and reflected upon. Not only a place of memory and knowledge, but also a multifunctional centre: a space to host meetings, debates and exhibitions that commemorate the atrocities of the past; a place to create opportunities for dialogue and exchange between cultures, and to educate young people to overcome linguistic, cultural and social barriers, so that the barbarity of the twentieth century—which found its most extreme expression in the Shoah—may never be repeated. Visits – Exhibitions – Seminars – Presentations The Memorial hosts events open to all those interested in dialogue and encounter between different religions, ethnicities and cultures.
