The National Museum of Italian Judaism and the Shoah (MEIS) in Ferrara was established by Law No. 91 of 17 April 2003, later amended by

Law No. 296 of 27 December 2006, to bear witness to the

two-thousand-year Jewish presence in Italy.

The Museum highlights the rich and uninterrupted history of Jews in Italy, emphasising their cultural contributions and the challenges they have faced—ranging from coexistence to discrimination

and persecution, including the Shoah.

MEIS is a place of encounter and exchange, a laboratory of ideas and reflection open to all, promoting debate on Judaism and fostering intercultural dialogue.
